What have we found?

We are interested in understanding how the neural bases for various linguistic processes are related to various math skills (i.e., numerical magnitude, arithmetic, word problems) from kindergarten to elementary years.

There is a high co-occurrence of dyslexia and dyscalculia, but the underlying mechanisms remain debated. We argue that language skills might be a shared factor for the heightened comorbidity and aim to examine the following questions: 1. What is the role of phonological processing in various math skills? 2. Are semantic and syntactic processing related to various math skills? 3. How does the relation evolve with development?
